Introduction of Tea
- Jasmine green tea was first produced in China over 1,000 years ago. Jasmine tea’s scenting process began during the Southern-Song Dynasty in China and was further developed under the Ming Dynasty. By the early 20th century, the blend was popular enough to become a fast moving trade item.
- Tea was allegedly discovered in 2737 BC. It is believed that Emperor Shennong of China had some leaves accidentally fall into his cup of boiling water. He then drank the resulting liquid.
- Only the top 1 to 2 inches of a mature plant, referred to as the new ‘flushes’ of the plant are picked. A new flush grows within 7 to 14 days during the growing season.
